Botox FAQs

What is Botox?

Botox is a brand name for botulinum toxin type A, a purified neurotoxin that temporarily paralyzes muscles. It’s commonly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, especially on the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), and between the brows (frown lines).

Botox blocks nerve signals to specific muscles, preventing them from contracting. This relaxes the muscle and smooths the overlying skin, reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles caused by facial expressions.

Yes, Botox is FDA-approved and considered safe when administered by a qualified, experienced provider. Side effects are usually mild and temporary. Serious complications are rare.

Our treatment areas include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines (glabellar lines)
  • Crow’s feet

Though it is worth noting that there are multiple other areas that can be treated as an off-label use for Botox, these are not currently offered at our clinic.

Most people describe Botox injections as a small pinch. The needles used are very fine, and discomfort is minimal. Numbing cream can be used if needed.

You may start seeing results within 3–5 days, with full results visible in about 10–14 days after treatment.

How long does Botox last?

Results typically last 3–4 months. With regular treatments, results may last longer over time.

Common side effects include:

  • Redness or swelling at injection site
  • Mild bruising
  • Headache
  • Temporary drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow (rare)

Yes. Botox is often called a “lunchtime treatment” because there is little to no downtime. You can resume most normal activities immediately but should avoid strenuous exercise, lying down, or rubbing the area for 4–6 hours.

Avoid Botox if you:

  • Are pregnant
  • Have a history of allergic reactions to botulinum toxin
  • Have certain neuromuscular disorders (like myasthenia gravis)

Always disclose your medical history to your provider before treatment.

Not if administered correctly. A skilled injector will use the right amount of Botox to soften wrinkles while maintaining natural facial expressions.

Botox relaxes muscles to smooth wrinkles, while dermal fillers add volume to areas like the cheeks, lips, or under the eyes. They treat different types of aging concerns and can be used together for enhanced results.
